Through The Bridge Program, a participant has gained the support and skills needed to stay on track with her education and personal goals. Recently awarded a scholarship, she’s pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, with hopes of becoming a private investigator to help bring justice to unsolved cases.

Detroit, MI [The Bridge Program] – For many young adults, transitioning out of the foster care system can feel like an overwhelming and uncertain journey. But for this participant, that transition has become one of growth, empowerment, and new opportunities.
The participant first learned about the program through a peer in their community who recommended it as resource for the support she needed. “[They] said it would be a good fit for me through my years of college,” she shares.
The decision to join The Bridge was easy, the participant knew it was a necessary step for their future. “I decided to join the program to get my time management back on track, after completing high school I lost my time management. I was not on track to reaching my goals."
One of the key ways the Bridge Program has supported this participant’s journey is through its focus on education. "I receive so much support from staff members of this program. If I needed anything I feel comfortable asking for help." She shares, "my Peer Support Specialist makes sure I am on top of my education and I really appreciate that.”
Exciting news came when the participant learned she had been awarded a scholarship towards her schooling at a local University. The participant studies criminal justice, with a long-term goal of working in private investigation. “Many cases go unsolved over the years. People's loved ones never get the justice they need for their family that passed away. I don’t want that to keep happening to innocent families.” This scholarship brings her one step closer to that goal.
Looking back, the participant is deeply grateful for the support and guidance they’ve received through the program. “I am most thankful for my navigator. She is the biggest supporter I have she has guided me through my worst times but also helped with achieving a lot of my goals. I appreciate her more than she knows.”
Throughout their time in The Bridge Program, the participant has experienced remarkable growth. “I developed better communication skills, time management, better mental and physical health,” she shares. “What I learned in the bridge program can really help me throughout my future career. Having faith and being brave in myself will take me far in life.”
With the skills, education, and confidence, this participant is well on her way to achieving her goals. As she reflects on her journey, she is filled with gratitude and hope for the future. “I want to thank everyone in this program that believes in me thank you for helping me achieve my goals while being so supportive.”
